เมื่อวันที่ 7 สิงหาคม ข้าราชการจากกรมทรัพยากรธรณี เจ้าหน้าที่ประชาสัมพันธ์ และสื่อมวลชนในสายงานกระทรวงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม กว่า 50 คน ได้เข้าเยี่ยมชมการดำเนินงานของเหมืองแร่ทองคำภูทับฟ้า ของ บริษัท ทุ่งคำ จำกัด การเข้าเยี่ยมชมครั้งนี้ เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการสัมมนาเชิงปฏิบัติการเกี่ยวกับการบริหารจัดการแหล่งทรัพยากรธรณีและแหล่งท่องเที่ยวทางธรณีวิทยา ในพื้นที่จังหวัดเลย
คุณเชิดศักดิ์ อรรถอารุณ ผู้จัดการทั่วไป สายงานสำรวจ และทีมงานของบริษัทได้ให้การต้อนรับ และบรรยายสรุปความเป็นมา สภาพธรณีวิทยา การทำเหมือง กระบวนการผลิตทองคำและทองแดง การจัดการน้ำในบริเวณ มาตรการป้องกันผลกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม และการดำเนินงานด้านชุมชนสัมพันธ์ จากนั้นได้นำคณะจากกระทรวงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม เข้าศึกษาและสัมผัสประสบการณ์จริงในขั้นตอนการทำงานต่าง ๆ ของเหมือง ซึ่งได้รับความสนใจอย่างมาก และมีการซักถามรายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมตลอดเวลา เมื่อจบการเยี่ยมชมทางเหมืองได้บริการอาหารกลางวันให้กับคณะภายในบริเวณโรงอาหารด้วย
หลังจากนั้น คณะผู้เยี่ยมชมได้เดินทางต่อไปยังเหมืองแร่เหล็กภูอ่าง เพื่อศึกษาหาความรู้เพิ่มเติมจากแหล่งแร่สำคัญอีกประเภทหนึ่งในพื้นที่จังหวัดเลยด้วย

On August 7, a group of more than 50 visitors from Department of Mineral Resources, public relations officers and a group of press attached to Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment paid a visit to Phu Thab Fah Gold Mine of Tungkum Limited. The trip was part of a workshop aiming to enhance their technical background and build up in-depth understanding of resource utilization for effective management of natural resources and for geological sites as educational tools.
Khun Cherdsak Utha-aroon, General Manager – Exploration and Tungkum personnel welcomed the group and gave a brief covering general background, geology, mining, processing of gold and copper ores, water resource management, environmental protection measures, as well as community relations activities. The visitors were subsequently guided to the operating mine face and gold processing facilities, and along the course of the tour, ample opportunity was provided for enthusiastic questions, answers, explanations, and exchanging views from all. The mine tour ended around noon with simple complimentary lunch hosted by Tungkum at its open-air cafeteria.
The group headed for Phu Ang iron mine after lunch for more of hands-on experience from another important commodity of Loei.
